Business Continuity Awareness Week (BCAW) 2019 on May 13th – 17th will focus on the theme “Investing in Resilience” which will be the same theme for this year’s BCI World 2019.
This year’s theme for Business Continuity Awareness Week will explore different interpretations of “investing” to generate discussions around how we can best support business continuity professionals and resilience functions. From investing in people and training, to looking ahead and considering how we can invest in the future of resilience, this year’s BCAW activities seek to empower our community through raising awareness of the profession. The world is an ever-changing landscape in terms of risk, and as these changes happen, the business continuity and resilience industry must evolve.
The BCI is proud to be a part of this evolution and we are releasing our Manifesto for Organizational Resilience during Business Continuity Awareness Week (BCAW) 2018.
The manifesto positions us within the organizational resilience sphere; not as the ‘know-all’ organization, but as a central point for collaboration across all management disciplines.

We all know we need to update our software, backup our critical data, install and maintain antimalware software and firewalls, manage robust contingency and recovery plans, not open funky emails, audit everything, blah blah blah. So what's wrong with us? Why don't we all do these things consistently?
I'd like to think that everything we have been lectured, reminded, scolded, chastised, and even ridiculed about in the way of protecting our digital assets is doable and reasonable, but face it – sometimes it's not. Costs, number of hours in the day, distractions, urgent priorities, sleep, other crises, get in the way. Or, to put it simply, we get lazy or "have better things to do."
